我只能告訴你最大的分類
最大分類是 嚴肅音樂和流行音樂
現在主要講流行音樂
流行音樂下分一級的主要大類是：鄉村音樂，民謠，爵士樂，節奏藍調，HIP-HOP，福音歌曲，靈歌，搖滾樂，流行美聲，電影音樂，世界音樂，新世紀音樂，電子樂，先鋒實驗音樂。
（其中爵士樂，節奏藍調，HIP-HOP，福音歌曲，靈歌的根源都是屬于黑人音樂）
現在往下再粗略分一下
鄉村音樂有鄉村和西部音樂，蘭草音樂等等。鄉村音樂的種類變化不大。
民謠主要是指五，六十年代的民謠，比如BOB DYLAN，JOAN BAZE的（并不是各民族的原聲的民謠，那不屬于流行音樂的范疇）
爵士樂：爵士樂的分類就多了，主要的大風格有：新奧爾良爵士，RAGTIME，大樂隊，搖擺樂，比波普，冷爵士，芭莎諾娃，FUSION，硬波普，酸性爵士等等。
福音歌曲：福音歌曲是世俗性的宗教音樂，區別教堂制的宗教音樂。也就是說是流行化的宗教歌曲。
靈歌，主要有傳統的靈歌和流行的靈歌。現在歐美流行的主流音樂多數是靈歌（還有R&B,HIP-HOP）
節奏藍調：節奏藍調就是R&B，但不僅僅是我們現在常聽到的流行的R&B，其實傳統上的R&B是比較接近搖滾樂的那種布魯斯搖滾，比如B.B.KING的那些，現在流行的R&B是舞曲化的R&B
搖滾樂。搖滾樂的分類實在太多太多了。最傳統的搖滾樂是指貓王的那種融合了節奏藍調和白人鄉村音樂的風格。后來經過快速的裂變發展繁殖，現在的風格已經不計其數了。主要有 金屬，朋克，迷幻搖滾，后朋克，后搖，GRUNGE，鄉村搖滾，等等分類。在發展過程中各種風格交錯繁殖，結合，裂變，形成各種不同的新風格，又可以再往下分，這里不贅述了。
流行美聲。就是介乎流行與美聲之間的歌曲，比如芭芭拉史翠珊，朱蒂柯林斯一類的歌曲，屬于比較正統的流行歌曲。
電影音樂是電影的原聲音樂，風格不定，主要是管弦樂和電子音樂的結合。
世界音樂：是世界各地的民間音樂經過商業的開發出來的。比如蒙古族的民間音樂，你是唱片公司的老板，你投資出這些音樂唱片，那么這些音樂出來就可以叫做世界音樂了。本質上就是世界各地的民族民間音樂。
電子音樂的風格也太多了。電子音樂是現在裂變最快的音樂，根據統計有五百多種呢。
