外貿驅動型經濟對經濟增長的驅動力主要來自于出口和進口兩個方面
一、什么是外向型經濟？外向型經濟就是一國或地區為推動該國或地區的經濟發展和增長，以國際市場需求為導向，以擴大出口為中心，根據比較優勢理論，積極參與國際分工和國際競爭，所建立的經濟結構、經濟運行機制和經濟運行體系。 二、外向型經濟的基本內容：１．以國際市場需求為導向；
２．經濟結構的建立以國際經濟的基本內容和發展為依據，必須能夠參與國際分工；
３．具備較為健全的市場經濟秩序和經濟組織結構體系；
４．外貿體制采取以經濟手段為主的管理制度。 三、外向型經濟的類型(一)國際經濟學界通常把外向型經濟分為:1.堅定的外向型經濟;2.基本外向型經濟;3.一般外向型經濟。
(二)世界銀行的分類法:堅定的外向型經濟和一般的外向型經濟。
（三）其他分類法：１．按參與國際市場的方式劃分，可以把外向型經濟分成貿易型、資本型、資本貿易混合型；２．按發展模式劃分，可以把外向型經濟分成科技領先型、資源驅動型、結構優化型。 四、 外向型經濟的標準國際上通用的是以經濟貿易制度的“偏倚"來衡量的,主要包括以下幾個標準：1、名義保護率和實際保護率；2、國（或地區）內貿易比值；3、產業國際相關比值；4、主要出口產品國際市場占有率。
外向型經濟的貿易政策是一種“中性”的、不偏不倚的政策。 五、中國外向型經濟的特征是什么？１.政府主導型經濟；２．沿海地區率先發展外向型經濟的同時，發揮全國各地產業優勢，共同推進外向型經濟的發展；３．以“三來一補”為起點，實現從貿易為主轉為與國際經濟的經濟和技術合作；４．以重點出口產業群體作為產業外向化發展的中堅力量，形成大中小企業相結合的專業化協作體系；５．擴大對外開放，發展外向型經濟必須對內對外開放齊頭并進。
日前，中國外經貿部部長石廣生指出，加入世貿組織后，中國的開放將出現三大變化，即由目前有限范圍和領域內的開放，轉變為全方位的對外開放；由以試點為特征的政策主導下的開放，轉變為法律框架下可預見的開放；由單方面為主的自我開放，轉變為與世貿組織成員之間的相互開放
